Multiples Chart

Hundred Chart (Multiples Chart) puts a grid of 1 to 30 in front of students and asks them to colour every multiple of a given number. The coloured tiles reveal skip-counting patterns — diagonal stripes, evenly spaced gaps, and visual rhythms that turn abstract multiples into something students can see and remember.

What students practice

Hundred Chart builds fluency with skip counting, multiples, and early times-table patterns. Visually spotting the evenly spaced intervals of 2s, 5s, or 7s reinforces the pattern structure of multiplication and lays the groundwork for understanding common multiples and divisibility rules.

  1. Read the number whose multiples you need to colour.
  2. Tap individual tiles to colour them, or drag across multiple tiles at once.
  3. Colour every multiple of that number up to 30 — use skip-counting or your times tables to guide you.
  4. Press Check when all multiples are coloured and no extra tiles are highlighted.

How to use it at home or in class

Colouring multiples of 3 up to 30: tiles 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 light up. Students notice every third tile is coloured — the rhythm of 3 becomes visual. Switching to 6 shows every other tile from the 3s is coloured, making 3 and 6 share multiples visible.

Students often confuse multiples with factors and colour numbers that divide evenly into the target rather than numbers the target divides into. The prompt reminds them to colour numbers you reach by skip-counting, not the divisors of the given number.

Which grades is Hundred Chart designed for?

Does the chart always go from 1 to 30?
Yes. The 30-number range is large enough to show two or more full skip-count cycles for every number from 2 to 10, revealing the repeating pattern clearly.
Is zero a multiple of every number?
Mathematically yes, but the chart starts at 1 so students are not prompted to colour zero. The focus is on the positive-integer pattern students see in the grid.
