3D math game · Best for grades 5-6
Shop Discount sets students in a virtual store where they must calculate the final sale price after a percentage discount. By working through a realistic shopping transaction, students practise the two-stage process: compute the discount amount, then subtract it from the original price.
Shop Discount develops the real-world application of percent-of: computing a percentage reduction and applying it. Students learn that finding a discount is a two-step process (percent of a whole, then subtraction), which is the foundation for calculating tax, tips, and commission.
An item costs 200 with a 25% discount. Students calculate 25% of 200 = 50, then subtract: 200 - 50 = 150. The sale price is 150. Seeing the full workflow in a shopping frame makes each step purposeful.
Many students enter the discount amount itself (50) rather than the final sale price (150). The game labels the input field as sale price, directing students to complete the subtraction step that distinguishes this game from a plain percent-of calculation.
Use it for individual practice, paired work, or a short class demonstration before worksheets.
Start with the game above, then continue with written practice to reinforce the skill.
