Fill the Container

Fill the Container turns reading a volume into a hands-on pouring task. Students drag to fill a jar to a target millilitre mark, learning that capacity is measured continuously along a scale rather than as a whole-number count. The live liquid level gives instant feedback on estimation accuracy.

What students practice

Practising volume measurement builds the understanding that capacity is a continuous quantity read from a scale, not a count of objects. Students learn to read intermediate graduations and develop the precision needed before moving to multi-step capacity problems in grades 3–4.

  2. Drag upward to pour liquid in, watching the level rise against the marked scale.
  3. Slow down as you approach the target mark — the last few millilitres matter.
  4. Press Check when the liquid level lines up with the target graduation.

How to use it at home or in class

The target is 350 ml. The jar's scale shows marks every 50 ml. Students pour to the 300 mark, then carefully add the remaining 50 ml to reach 350 — learning to use major markings as stepping stones to an exact reading.

Students often overshoot the target and stop only when the level clearly passes the mark. The game encourages slower, more deliberate pouring near the target, building the habit of approaching a measured value from below rather than correcting an overfill.
