Weighing Scale puts students at a market stall where they must balance fruit on one pan by adding gram weights (1 g, 10 g, 100 g) to the other. What students practice

Composing a target weight from 1 g, 10 g, and 100 g denominations builds place-value intuition for three-digit numbers while practising the real measurement skill of choosing the most efficient combination of weights — the same reasoning used in every market and kitchen context for grades 2–3.

  2. Use the 100 g, 10 g, and 1 g buttons to add weights to the right pan.

How to use it at home or in class

The target is 253 g. Students add two 100 g weights (200 g), five 10 g weights (50 g), and three 1 g weights (3 g) to reach exactly 253 g. The step-by-step decomposition mirrors the place-value structure of the number itself.

Students often use too many small weights instead of exchanging ten 1 g pieces for a 10 g piece. The limited number of weights on screen encourages the regrouping step — paralleling the carrying concept in written addition.
