Angle Builder

Angle Builder puts a protractor into a space-station setting: students rotate a laser beam until the glowing arc matches a target number of degrees. The degree reading updates live, so the abstract symbol '90°' becomes a corner you can see and feel.

What students practice

Building angles by degree measure prepares students to classify angles as acute, right, obtuse, or reflex, and to use a real protractor accurately — the core grade 4-5 geometry skill before students encounter triangles and polygon angle sums.

  1. Read the target angle shown above the protractor.
  2. Drag the movable laser beam, or use the −/+ buttons (15° each step), to rotate it toward the target.
  3. Watch the glowing arc and the live degree counter as the angle opens or closes.
  4. Press Check when the arc matches the target.

How to use it at home or in class

For a 120° target the beam rotates past the right-angle mark (90°) and continues one-third of the way to a straight angle (180°). Seeing it cross 90° naturally introduces the word 'obtuse' without needing a definition first.

Students often confuse which arc reading to use when a protractor has two scales. The game shows only one live counter, removing that confusion and letting students focus on the relationship between rotation and degree measure.

What angle increments does Angle Builder use?
Each button press moves the beam 15°, so students practise multiples of 15: 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°, 120°, 135°, 150°, and 180° — the most common angles in the curriculum.
Which grades is this game for?
It fits grades 4-5, when students first measure angles with a protractor and classify them by type.
How is this different from the Geoboard game, which also involves shape and measurement?
Angle Builder focuses on a single angle's degree measure. Geoboard creates whole shapes and measures their area in square units — different geometric properties, different tools.
